Smile What Causes Lag And How To Fix It

There are two types of "lag": computer lag and network lag. Below, I explain what causes it and how to fix it.

.

It's normal to lag for a minute when a map first starts. During that time, a lot of data is being shoved through your internet connection. So after about a minute, the lag should go away.

Computer lag is when your computer can't display the graphics on your monitor fast enough to play smoothly. This is called your framerate (FPS - Frames Per Second). A framerate below 30 FPS is considered "laggy". You can see your framerate by pressing the Tab key and typing stat fps. To disable it, just type stat fps again.

To fix computer lag, you can do a few things. The quickest and easiest way is to turn down your graphics details. Do this by pressing Esc key, click Settings button and uncheck all the boxes and set all the options to Low or Lowest. The graphics will look worse than before, but at least you won't lag. As you play, you can gradually turn up the detail until you find a good balance between lag and graphical detail.

Another cause of computer lag are other programs running on your computer. Programs such as web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, etc) can easily use more than 50% of your CPU even if you're not using them. So close your web browsers and any other programs that are running. This will free up more CPU to be used by Kaneva, which will help lesson the lag.

If you want the pretty graphics without lagging, you'll need to upgrade your computer. The best place to start is with your memory Minimum 4 gigs DDR2 ideal 8 gigs if motherboard can handle it). The next best upgrade after memory is your CPU ( suggest minimum Core 2 but quad 4 is ideal). And after that, your graphics card ( Good ati radeon or Gforce Nvidia card 512 mbs minimum, try to stay away fprom onboard or generic cards unless you know what your doing). If you're willing to upgrade all three, you might as well buy a new computer to save yourself some money.

The other type of lag is network lag. This is harder to to fix. Network lag is usually caused by excessive use of your internet connection, such as running eMule or BitTorrent in the background. Network lag can also be caused by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), or if the network traffic from your computer to the server is being routed through slow or congested network equipment.

To fix network lag, close all internet-based programs, such as file-sharing programs and web browsers. If you have a broadband connection (cable, DSL) and/or a router, you can try power-cycling (unplug power cord, plug it back in after 1 minute) both the modem and router. If you know how, you could even try getting a new IP address, though that probably won't help. And lets not forget to reboot! After rebooting, don't open any other programs except Kaneva.

Also, a club, hangout with an excessive amount of Tv's, Widgets, Music/Dj's, Laser Lights, Animated Dance Floors Will cause a huge amount of Lag to most any Pc regardless of its specs, also the amount of peeps at said place is a big reason for lag. Be nice if we could have a option to turn off Tv's, Laser's, Widgets, at least so that when we do go to these places, we can get a better fps. Altering your personal one as mentioned above helps but still doesnt really solve most of the things I menioned very well.

thats not true . i have absolutely no lag whatsoever. Doesnt matter how full a place is or how much its animated can have 150 people at a place. Its all in the specs on your pc. i built places for 250k here and not a bit of lag. Load time is 2 seconds. Follow those rules i stated and youll be better off in the long run. Now if you cant do any of the above to improve your pc then Gamma has a point with limiting assets. My goal is to improve you game so you dont have to limit your assets or places you go to. ty

Default Just a note

Most windows operating systems only support a max of 4GB ram, unless u are using a 64bit windows system or a windows server "longhorn" enterprise edition or higher (server core installation), so adding more than 4gb is a waste.

I use 64bit. Which if you do buy a new pc get 64bit for 8gig ram option.
Thats why i said only if motherboard can handle it otherwise use 4 gigs on a 32bit when upgrading. ty

Well Im speaking of the "Average" user and their specs which for me would be a Windows 32bit with 4 megs. I mean sure..If you are running on a T1 or T3 line then you will not have any lag either, but then again is that normal or cost doable ?

One more thing as well, I also just tried dancing at 3d with my new build which is a Quad Core with 8 gigs of ram at 1066 DDR2 on WIndows 7 64bit, and still had the arrows freeze up on me at times while dancing causing me to fall, so I know its not that systems specs. (On a cable modem btw).
